Claudia Musat
Claudia is a student in the Master of Financial Engineering Program at
Haas School of Business, UC Berkeley.
Born in Romania, Claudia obtained a B.S. in Computer Science in her native
country. After graduation, she worked for the second largest media company in
Romania. She moved to the United States in 1998, after receiving a scholarship
to pursue a graduate degree in Applied Mathematics at Florida State University.
Upon obtaining a M.S. in August 2000, Claudia began her career as a Coordinator
of Computer Applications at Administrative Information Systems, FSU.
While at Florida State, she volunteered to guide new international students
through the difficulties of adapting to a new life in a new country. She also
decided to employ her mathematical skills in the service of the community, by
helping undergraduate students in mathematics on a weekly basis, as part of the
Math Help Center.
While having extensive knowledge and skills in the areas of Mathematics and
Computers, she felt the need to acquire a deeper understanding of financial
instruments in order to pursue her goal of having a productive career in the
financial industry. It was not an easy decision to start over a new graduate
program. Significant sacrifices were required for attending the MFE Program at
UC Berkeley. But her experience at this program proved that she made the right
decision.
As soon as she will finish the MFE program in March 2005, she would like to
assist the next wave of women in the financial industry, where they are
under-represented. Their attention to detail, combined with their brain power
and their intuition, will allow them to be very effective in this field.
Her dream was, and remains, to have a stimulating and rewarding career, along
with a fully accomplished personal life. Working in financial engineering would
be the type of profession that she envisions for herself: creative, challenging
and extremely rewarding.
