Lisa Garland

Lisa is currently attending the Stanford Graduate School of Business
and will graduate with an MBA in June, 2005. Lisa completed her undergraduate
degree at the University of California at Berkeley where she majored in Business
Administration. During the course of her studies, Lisa traveled to Japan as a
Monbusho scholar, studying international business, law, and security for
eighteen months. During her summers, Lisa also interned for the U.S. Department
of State in Washington, D.C.
After U.C. Berkeley, Lisa headed to New York City to work as an investment
banking Analyst in the Mergers, Acquisitions, & Restructuring Department of
Morgan Stanley. After two years in New York, Morgan Stanley sent Lisa to Beijing
to help build their joint venture investment bank, China International Capital
Corporation (CICC). During her year at CICC, she participated in some of China's
largest state-owned enterprise privatizations, including China Petroleum &
Chemical Corporation and the China World Trade Center. In 1999, Lisa returned to
the U.S. to pursue a career in the private equity industry with Swander Pace
Capital (SPC), a San Francisco-based leverage buyout fund. At SPC, Lisa was
responsible for sourcing, financing, executing, and managing portfolio
investments of mid-sized private companies. After three years at SPC, Lisa
joined Border Foods (Border), a portfolio company of SPC. As their Director of
Business Development, Lisa was responsible for leading a number of corporate
strategic initiatives, including consolidating Border's 27 warehouses into 7 and
the development of a three-year strategic plan.
For her summer internship in 2004, Lisa worked with Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. on
a strategy project in global procurement and supply chain management. Lisa
worked with Wal-Mart both at its headquarters in Bentonville, Arkansas and
overseas at its global procurement operations in Bangalore, India.
As part of her studies at Stanford, Lisa is also completing a certification
in the Global Management Program. She is actively involved in a number of
organizations, including Women in Management, the Leadership Development
Program, the Private Equity Club, and the Finance and Investment Club.
