Stephanie Neruda

Even though I grew up in the middle of the United States, I
have always had a strong interest in other cultures and areas of
the world. My mother fostered my interest in the international
environment by hosting various guests from across the globe and
providing me many opportunities to travel. As my fascination for
other cultures developed, so did my academic pursuit of math and
science. I believe this dual expansion of my horizons motivated
my desire to attend a college that would provide a challenge
while enabling me to meet people from a variety of backgrounds.
When I left Nebraska for Stanford University, I was eager for
the forthcoming opportunity. Freshman year I took an
introductory economics class that began narrowing my focus into
business and finance. I began seeking out campus organizations
that allowed students to gain first hand experience outside of
the classroom. The position of Merchandising Manager at an
on-campus university apparel retail store kindled my interest in
finance. I was challenged to apply the decision making and
analytical skills I had encountered in economics, engineering,
and finance courses. This school year I will graduate with a
Bachelor of Science in Management Science and Engineering, and a
minor in International Relations.
This summer I will be interning with the Financial
Institutions Group in the Investment Banking Division at Merrill
Lynch in New York City. I am eager for this opportunity, as the
group provides a broad range of financial services to many of
the largest commercial banks and investment managers around the
world. This will surely provide me with a stronger foundation of
core financial tools and analytical decision-making skills that
I can expand upon as I continue my business career.
Because of my strong interest in the interdependence among
cultures, I want to work in an environment that enhances the
interaction between U.S. and global markets. After working for a
few years, I plan to complete an M.B.A. and pursue a career that
incorporates my financial and international interests. My goal
is to become a Chief Financial Officer for a large
multi-national corporation.
I am excited about the opportunity for mentorship that the
FWASF provides in addition to the financial support, and look
forward to continued involvement in this organization.
