Stephanie Pender
Currently I am a junior at UC Berkeley's Haas
School of Business pursing my undergraduate degree in Business
Administration.
Originally I grew up in a small coastal town in
Oregon. I will be the first in my family to receive a bachelor's
degree. My introduction into the real world was at the age of
seventeen. I started as a records keeper at a clinic where my
mother worked. In no time I moved up to the head of the records
department and supervising staff of experienced employees. I
eventually moved from my small town on to greater adventures. I
worked my way up in the medical management field with in a short
time. I eventually relocated to the Bay Area, where I became an
Office Manager/Cosmetic Surgery Coordinator. I successfully
maintained and supervised a high end/ high volume laser surgery
center for two major metropolitan cities. I oversaw customer
service for a multi media-advertising infrastructure. I
coordinated and sold all cosmetic surgery cases, resulting in
$1.1 million in revenue for the year. It was for me at the age
of twenty-five a personal success that seemed to be the
pentacle. This exposed me though to many new ideas and
opportunities that I had not known of and after time I could see
a future far beyond what I had ever imagined possible for me. I
realized in order to get beyond the glass ceiling that I had
reached I would need an education to fuel my future.
I decided to leave the cosmetic practice to
pursue my educational goals and learn hands on about the world
of finance. I began to work as a loan consultant for a
subsidiary credit corporation of Bank of the West. I learned the
fundamentals of finance and credit within a commercial bank
setting. Subsequently I pursued a real estate license in order
to have a flexible work schedule while going to college. With my
license I contracted myself out to a mortgage brokerage on a
commission pay structure. Simultaneously, I began taking courses
at the College of Alameda that prepared me to transfer to the
Haas School of Business. I worked, went to school and maintained
a 4.0 G.P.A. As a student I have accomplished academic
excellence, created a business club, served as student body
treasurer and volunteered within my community.
I am very excited to be chosen by the Financial
Women's Association of San Francisco as a scholarship recipient.
It is an unbelievable opportunity to be introduced to such a
high caliber of professional women and to receive such an
incredible grant.
